From a one day trek to a three night wild camping expedition.

Tailor made treks for all ages

Fell ponies were traditionally bred as pack ponies

Day treks

From our base at the foot of Windermere we can take family groups on a one day adventure following an old pack horse route.

Start the day meeting the herd (in the winter you can help feed the ponies) then we load the pony with everything we need to cook lunch on an open fire, a communal shelter and snacks. Suitable for families, the walk is about 4 miles round trip back to our base.

Wild camping adventures

For the more adventurous traveller we take groups of up to 8 people on a three day wild camping trek with 4 ponies. We travel up to 8 miles a day over the iconic fells with breathtaking views of Cumbria and the Western Dales

Camping in tents and cooking on fire, our rare breed Fell ponies carry all the basic equipment from pots and pans to tents and sleeping bags. All you need to bring is suitable all weather clothing and footwear and we take care of everything else.

What a trip!
It was miraculous to have been transported somewhere else entirely for the weekend. It felt strange to be back in the land of cars and mobile phones after such an amazing trip deep into the Lakeland fells. Thanks so much to the the Fell Pony Adventures team Clare & Tom and ponies Fay, Pansy and Fairmile. I can’t wait to do it again.

Wow! Having never spent time around horses before, I was slightly apprehensive and wondered if I would be dodging kicks and constantly re-tying bags to disgruntled horses! However nothing could be further from the truth. From the outset it was clear that the horses were born for this sort of work and Tom & Clare’s love, respect and knowledge for the horses meant that their wellbeing was put first at every stage. I now can’t wait to do another trip!
