Fairmile was hand reared after her mother died when she was only a few weeks old so is one of our most sociable ponies and loves being fussed over. She has been there and done it all. A stalwart pack pony and wagon horse, Fairmile has pulled a gypsy caravan to Appleby Fair and was the first of my ponies to carry a packsaddle for Fell Pony Adventures. Fairmile is another gentle soul with the kindest temperament. Fairmile is the mother of Fay.

Probably our best pack pony, Fay is one of our smallest but loves to be at the front. She always has her ears forward and wants to know what’s round the next corner! Fay is the only daughter of Fairmile.

We bought Polly as a yearling at the Heltondale dispersal sale in 1995. She was lot no 1 and we paid £1200 Guineas for her which was a lot of money back then. But my father Walter really wanted her as the Polly Perkins line was what we established the Hades Hill herd with back in 1957 when Walter bought a brown mare, Heltondale Polly Perkins along with Heltondale Firefly. Polly is the mother of Hades Hill Perry which is the best driving pony we have ever had so it was money well spent, and also mother of Hades Hill Polly Perkins (No Trouble)

Polly loves a bit of attention and still enjoys a short hack out with a little canter!

Affectionately known as “Trouble”, she is now known as “No Trouble “after her first season as a pack pony where she has never put a foot wrong. Brave but gentle Little Polly will eventually be white all over like all grey Fells.

Prince is the comedian of the herd. He’s a great all-rounder and loves riding, carrying a pack saddle and is also a rock solid wheeler in our our four-in-hand team of driving ponies.

Pansy is probably the most experienced pack pony we have and one of our most widely travelled having been over many, many Lakeland fells and also the Cape Wrath trail (300km of the wettest boggy ground to the North Western point of Scotland). Pansy is one of our regular hacking ponies and has the most comfortable canter. She is also a leader in our four-in-hand team of driving ponies. Pansy is a half-sister to Fay and Little Polly (same sire) and also to Prince (same dam).
